4th Meeting of the Nordic Network in Metaphysics: November 27-28 2018, Gothenburg

ugot_logoThe Nordic Network in Metaphysics organises its 4th meeting on the 27-28 November 2018. This meeting is hosted by the department of Philosophy, Linguistics and Theory of Science at the University of Gothenburg.

The meeting features presentations from junior academics (PhD-students and postdocs) affiliated to a university in the network (any university in either Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Island, Norway or Sweden), working in metaphysics.

All talks will have a commentator, and the following philosophers have provisionally accepted that role: Einar Duenger Bøhn (Agder), Matti Eklund (Uppsala), Jani Hakkarainen (Tampere), Markku Keinänen (Helsinki), Anna-Sofia Maurin (Gothenburg), Johanna Seibt (Aarhus), Tuomas Tahko (Helsinki), and Tobias Hansson-Wahlberg (Lund).

Call for abstracts: PhD-students and postdocs affiliated to a university in the network, working in metaphysics (broadly construed), interested in presented at the meeting should submit an abstract no later than September 15. Should your abstract be accepted, you are expected to submit a paper to your commentator no later than November 7.

Submit your abstract (maximum 500 words, prepared for blind refereeing) by e-mailing it to: anna-sofia.maurin@gu.se. Make sure you include information about your affiliation in the cover letter.

Estonia Now Included in Nordic Network in Metaphysics!

It has been informally agreed to also include Estonia in our informal Nordic Network in Metaphysics. The first Estonian philosopher to be added to our list of members is Eve Kitsik, Research Fellow at the University of Tartu, Estonia, who works in metametaphysic. Welcome Eve!

November 27-28 2018 the Nordic Network in Metaphysics hosts its 4th meeting, this time at the department of Philosophy, Linguistics and Theory of Science at the University of Gothenburg.

The meeting features presentations from junior academics (PhD-students and postdocs) affiliated to a Nordic university, working in metaphysics. All talks will be followed by comments.

2nd International Conference on Metaphysical Explanation, Gothenburg, 13–14 February

cropped-philosophy This conference focuses on issues related to:  (1) the choice between what is sometimes called unionism (i.e., the view that grounding is explanatory per se) and separatism (the view that grounding and explanation are distinct) and (2) the analogy (given separatism) between grounding/metaphysical explanation and causation causal explanation.

Speakers include Ricki Bliss (Lehigh University), Einar Duenger Bohn (University of Agder), Daniel Giberman (University of Texas at Arlington), Lina Jansson (University of Nottingham), David Kovacs (Tel Aviv University), Elanor Taylor (Johns Hopkins University) and Kelly Trogdon (Virginia Tech).
